eventful week to say the least. we had this big film shoot Tuesday, 16mm. i havent seen the dailies yet, hopefully it works out.
i found out yesterday that the oscars were this sunday. not that i didn't know about the oscars, obviously, but i really only knew ballpark of when they were. and they're this sunday. and i'm not working this sunday! how could you not be entertained by alec baldwin and steve martin? that's a killer 1-2 punch, especially if it's in any arena besides a nancy meyers film. to be fair i didn't see it's complicated but please i know the type of film. not my cup of tea.
my picks? predictions? we'll start with predictions. well the obvious choice is hurt locker for best picture. in andrew southard's world, NOT that i didn't absolutely LOVE the hurt locker, but inglorious basterds FTW. damn, i never thought i would actually use FTW in online talk, but it happened. yep. ropeofsilicon, the greatest movie website there is, predicts that inglorious could be a dark horse candidate, like crash was with brokeback. i'm seeing it happening. why not? and once again, i am a HUGE fan of the hurt locker and kathryn bigelow(point break anyone?), but i don't know how you don't give james cameron the oscar for best director. i mean avatar, best picture? definitely not. it'd be an outrage if it win's best picture and a slap in the face to the entire writing industry. but, directing wise, the man put together a visual masterpiece. he worked 3 years on it, had every intricate detail worked out. the man invented his own technology for the film. i'm pretty sure he deservedly should get best director.
we shall see, we shall see.

i saw cop out yesterday. why would i see cop out in theaters? well, as you may not know, kevin smith directed it. you may not know that because the studio did not market this as a kevin smith film, and that irritated me. but, it still was a kevin smith film so i felt like i was in good hands. how was it? eh. funny at times. nothing special. there was this one scene, if you check it out the baseball card shop scene. that was shot literally on my block i thought that was cool. i mean, it's nothing special. last time i went to go see a kevin smith movie in theaters i had the choice between zack and miri make a porno and rocknrolla. in perspective, i should've seen rocknrolla. this time i had the choice between cop out and shutter island. also the crazies looks pretty, hm, crazie! in perspective i'm sure i would've wanted to see those movies in theaters moreso than cop out but hey, i'm a loyal fan.

retook my test, passed it. finished my paper due tomorrow. had to skip my art history class to do it, but hey. fuck art history. i really don't care if the egyptians liked to use limestone and the greeks liked to use marble. doesn't concern me whatsoever.
my name wouldn't be andrew southard if i didn't remind everyone to go check out Angels and Airwaves' new album, LOVE. you can get it for free at their website, angelsandairwaves.com. how is it? it's alright. young london is a cool song. it's tom. and i love tom. but it's missing two main components, mark and travis. blink is getting back together and coming out with a new album late this year/probably next, so that makes this more enjoyable. i mean they released it for free, that's pretty sweet in my book.

hello. well we made it, and we continue. may i rant for a bit? my life has gotten extremely fucking difficult. first response, oh boo hoo man the fuck up. 200,000 people died in haiti, one out of five kids is homeless in america, they still haven't made an arrested development movie yet. whatever. i'm allowed to have my own problems. i failed my camera test today. the fucking arri 16mm piece. of. shit. i fucking hate that thing, i'm never going to use it, and FUCK. I FUCKING FAILED IT. i mean i'm retaking it tomorrow and i'm going to pass it tomorrow. it's not like i got a grade as an F and i'm complaining about it. been down that road before, i can deal with that. i mean this is supposed to be my shit you know? it's becoming too easy to rethink what the fuck i'm doing with my life and just give up and roll burritos for eternity.
by the way, sidenote. in case you didn't see my facebook statuses i met bill hader 2 days ago and the lonely island guys came in again yesterday. that was awesome. i'm a total loser fanboy so talking to officer slater was a huge deal for me. it was even cooler having a conversation about McGruber with the dudes working on it. will it suck? according to the little guy it won't.
anyway, where was i. grr. fucking angry, depressed, listening to the smiths? what the fuck drew. at times like these, i've found it important to see an endgame. my endgame? sitting on a beach all summer having mrs. d'angelo bark in my ear about how her cabana needs to be cleaned. or rolling burritos without a care in the world. last summer, took it for granted so hard. either way, i am grasping on to every second of the summer.
my sophomore year of college, easily the most difficult school year of my life. with production II(maybe i've told you about the fourteen hour class days), work, lack of a social life, it's just not fun right now. life isn't fun. but hey, all the petty bullshit aside, this is life. this is the real world. you gotta grasp it by the balls and just endure.
if you couldn't tell, today was a rough one for me. now i'll pack the bong, sit back, not worry about my paper on some iranian film due thursday, and just let the thc make it all better.
tomorrow is a new day.

LIAH #1000
here we are! 1000 little entries later, and I'm still here. you all know the origin story, its like spiderman, WE DON'T NEED IT AGAIN. but for those who don't, about seven years ago? sometime in freshman year of high school, i wrote about how i came up with this idea in the shower, LIAH. Life, Inside, Andrews, Head. there have been times where I've thought about a name change, but as with my screen name and my Indiana Hoosiers sweatshirt, there's vintage value to it.
originally i had all sorts of bells and whistles planned for liah 1000, but considering this has literally been the busiest year of my life i couldn't really put much together. but, this is a celebration! i'm definitely genuinely happy and excited about this, reaching 1000. i feel like i've accomplished something real. i'm not sure what i've accomplished but like i said, it feels like something real.
so, as i'm sure you all remember because it was a big turning point in LIAH, i made a video for 900. it was quite good. it had warrior and vader fighting in it, and all sorts of sweet pictures. new liah tradition? i'll leave you with this.

so matt and kim? went to go visit jersey's golden boy billy rose. somehow they came up in conversation. can't stop listening? at first i was like matt and kim that just sounds as whack as can be. but its catchy as shit. check them out. and while we're on the topic of rad music videos, this one is pretty sweet.
on another note, coming up next liah 1000. BOOM.

i was on the toilet the other day, and i read an article about how mtv is changing its logo. they're dropping the phrase music television out of the logo to have a more 3d m with shots of the casts of all their shows. dag. the day mtv died. it was a slow decline but after as a network they finally accepted that they don't show music videos anymore. whats up with that? i mean they're absolutely never shown anymore. for reality tv? fucking jersey shore? i leave you with these masterpieces. top 5 music videos.
5. Blink - Always
i went through all of Blink's collection to try and pick out number 1 from them. Down, First Date, and Josie were all up there. but number one blink video has to be Always. when this came out i couldn't stop watching it, the whole three things going on at once is just cool. the coloring too is great, lots of yellows going on.
4. Weezer - Keep Fishin
jay recently got me back into this song, but also this awesome video. who doesn't like the muppets? animal on drums. its great.
3. Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without The E
easy. i saw this video and thought taking back sunday was worth checking out. i mean i'm pretty sure i don't need to explain myself with this one.
2. Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice
going to round out the top 5 by two from the master, mr. jonze. christopher walken in all his glory. this could arguably be the best music video ever, if not for spike's masterpiece.
1. Beastie Boys - Sabatoge
greatest music video, ever. period.
mtv is dead. long live mtv.
