well i had an awesome weekend. i went on a film shoot, learned a shit ton, had an all around awesome time. i'm getting pumped for the "intense" lighting lecture tuesday. not that i still won't be clueless but i've got a foundation. boom. making movies. that's what it's about.
people say marijuana makes you lazy. that might be true, it might not be. the fact is, at the end of the day when i want to watch tv i want to be lazy anyway. so why not smoke weed? if i don't have shit to do that day, then i want to be lazy. so i smoke a bow. that's white plains slang. anyway, i've realized that i have mini epiphanies when i'm high things just seem to make sense to me. i had one last week, i forgot what it was because i smoke too much but for those two or three days when i was epiphanized it felt like something special. dag epiphanized isn't a word, but i'm going to use it anyway. epiphenomena or an epiphenomenon are words, hm, i think ill go with epiphenomenon that one is pretty rad. but yeah i know i have back problems. i'm like the fucking hunchback of notre dame. it's awful. horrendous. not attractive. so somewhere in my daze i just stood up straight. and i was like damn. that's how that works. so point of story? andrew southard has a new goal. to stand up straight. boom.
check out this video i'm pretty sure i watched it about 16 times this weekend. amazing music video.

at around 4 yesterday, i knew something was wrong. i was at work, on the steamer for about an hour. i love the nice weather, but anyone working in the food industry will tell you otherwise. hot, as, balls. anyway, i hopped on the register, and after emerging from the cloud of heat, i felt something was wrong. i got out of work as fast as i could, and the subway ride was just terrible. i got the R from union square. i'm at 95th street in brooklyn. for anyone familiar with the subway system, they can feel my pain. anyone not familiar, trust me, that's a long ass ride. anyway, i felt like i had to throw up. i was feeling like i had to throw up at union, let alone every fucking stop after. i made it all the way to 86th street, all the way. that's one stop away from my apartment. but i held it in as long as i can. i was eying an empty grocery bag on the train in worst case scenario. well, this was worst case scenario, i booted in an empty grocery bag on the subway. and then every hour last night, i had to boot. it was awful. i haven't been this sick since i had mono a couple years ago. i haven't smoked anything in 2 days. i had a turkey sandwich at about 8 tonight. it felt good to eat.
well! i'm gonna go pass out now, and attempt to go to class tomorrow. i think it'll happen. stay healthy, internet.

there are some great pleasures out there. one of my tops is finding new music. not new music in a general sense but new for me, listening to a band that i haven't listened to before. modest mouse, good news for people who love bad news, was always on my itunes and even my ipod. i've only got an 8gb ipod that i had to swindle for, so if something makes it on my ipod its me telling myself to listen to it. i finally did listen to it. god damn. i'm gonna go this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about as my favorite of their albums. and i mean first and foremost these are freaking great album titles. if you start off with a good album title you can only go up. take note, that one was free. modest mouse is just fantastic music. i went on a rampage and found practically their whole collection except their latest, and i said god damn! i guess if i had to put it anywhere it's definitely a branch off the pixies tree. fucking spectacular.

for those of you in the northeast, you're aware that apparently god does not want me to go to the Islander game tonight. i haven't been to an Islander game in 2 seasons, and that is not cool. not cool at all. so my car, barely hanging on to life, is going to make the trek to nassau coliseum tonight. godspeed drew, godspeed.

whose seen the new iron man 2 trailer? going to be freaking AWESOME. you know how spiderman was pretty sweet but spiderman 2 was epic? well, iron man was pretty awesome, so iron man 2 definitely has serious potential. not dark knight serious potential but it definitely looks like a quality comic book flick.
check it out for yourselves.

eventful week to say the least. we had this big film shoot Tuesday, 16mm. i havent seen the dailies yet, hopefully it works out.
i found out yesterday that the oscars were this sunday. not that i didn't know about the oscars, obviously, but i really only knew ballpark of when they were. and they're this sunday. and i'm not working this sunday! how could you not be entertained by alec baldwin and steve martin? that's a killer 1-2 punch, especially if it's in any arena besides a nancy meyers film. to be fair i didn't see it's complicated but please i know the type of film. not my cup of tea.
my picks? predictions? we'll start with predictions. well the obvious choice is hurt locker for best picture. in andrew southard's world, NOT that i didn't absolutely LOVE the hurt locker, but inglorious basterds FTW. damn, i never thought i would actually use FTW in online talk, but it happened. yep. ropeofsilicon, the greatest movie website there is, predicts that inglorious could be a dark horse candidate, like crash was with brokeback. i'm seeing it happening. why not? and once again, i am a HUGE fan of the hurt locker and kathryn bigelow(point break anyone?), but i don't know how you don't give james cameron the oscar for best director. i mean avatar, best picture? definitely not. it'd be an outrage if it win's best picture and a slap in the face to the entire writing industry. but, directing wise, the man put together a visual masterpiece. he worked 3 years on it, had every intricate detail worked out. the man invented his own technology for the film. i'm pretty sure he deservedly should get best director.
we shall see, we shall see.
